Ok then, let\u2019s dive in to part one\u2026 <!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Part 1 \u2013 Having a clear idea of what the web will do for your business<\/h2>\n<p><strong>What do you want from a website?<\/strong> It\u2019s important to be clear in your mind about the function of the website \u2013 what do you want it to do for you and your business. Will the website be\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A shop window for your business<\/li>\n<li>The actual business<\/li>\n<li>An information point for your existing clients<\/li>\n<li>A shop<\/li>\n<li>A payment engine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Are you certain about what the content should be?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who\u2019s going to generate the content \u2013 will it be you, or will you need the help of a copywriter?<\/li>\n<li>What information do you want to convey to your clients and prospects?<\/li>\n<li>A website is an extention of your business and will need to be looked after, will you have the time and effort to keep your website relevant and up to date on a regular basis?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Website design<\/strong> How will the website fit with your marketing strategy and how does it fit with your branding and other marketing materials?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you have a logo\/graphics\/branding or will they also need to be developed alongside the website?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Think about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design<\/li>\n<li>Layout<\/li>\n<li>Content and Message<\/li>\n<li>Menus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Look at other websites and note what you do and don\u2019t like, and start a portfolio. <strong>Your web design budget<\/strong> It\u2019s important to have a realistic budget in mind, remember if you pay peanuts you get monkeys!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How important will your website be to your business?<\/li>\n<li>If the website is at the heart of your marketing strategy then you need to be prepared to invest \u2013 even more so if the website is your business<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of \u00a31000 to \u00a32000 for a basic website with a CMS system(content managed system)<\/li>\n<li>Have you thought about payment methods and costs<\/li>\n<li>Also consider back up and website security<\/li>\n<li>Ask where your website will be hosted, in the UK or in someone\u2019s back bedroom?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s important to be part of the website process, get to know your web designer and work with them to make your website, and business a success.
