Web Design Case Study No.2 (True Colours CIC)

Marian and Michelle established True Colours in Leigh, Greater Manchester, in 2013 with the aim of supporting adults with autism and autistic traits across the Borough, enabling them to become as independent as possible.


Client Overview

Marian and Michelle established True Colours in Leigh, Greater Manchester, in 2013 with the aim of supporting adults with autism and autistic traits across the Borough, enabling them to become as independent as possible. The CIC helps learners with all aspects of their lives, addressing their individual goals and aspirations with a flexible service and giving them the tools to ultimately live self-sufficiently within their own communities.

The spectrum of need for True Colours’ service was so wide that the team identified and launched several additional initiatives to support the main provision, including equine therapy, peer support and social groups. Results have been remarkable, with learners openly communicating, travelling independently and growing in confidence.

Currently working with 28 learners aged 18+, recent expansion into Wigan has given the team a second base from which to operate, allowing the specialist support that True Colours can provide to be accessed by many more people in the area.

True Colours is a much-needed organisation in Wigan and Leigh and the motivation of Marian and Michelle is inspirational, having achieved their initial business model in their first six months. They are going from strength-to-strength but coupled with this comes a demand for further investment into the business.


The client’s need

As the company was expanding, Marian and Michelle realised that they needed to improve the way they publicised and promoted it.

“We needed a web design which was sympathetic not only to our professional requirements but to the accessibility needs of those we are trying to reach.”

The purpose of the website was to encourage learners to access True Colours’ services, find out more about how the CIC could help them and to engage with local support workers, carers, friends and families. True Colours wanted the website to be informative, easy to navigate and colourful whilst presenting a quality image to other local businesses and organisations, making sure that they were recognised as trusted and experienced professionals.


Why CRE8?

Looking for someone nearby to support them, True Colours approached us following a word-of-mouth recommendation. We had met previously at a local business expo and had started to build a rapport on social media so they were aware of the work we do.

Initially focusing on their website, once the process started the client realised that a more thorough rebrand of design essentials such as the company logo was necessary if they were to get across their message effectively and professionally to the wider community of learners, their families and other businesses.

Web Design & development

We met with True Colours several times to agree our scope, evolving the brief to incorporate a full branding package consisting of logo design and a new website accompanied by business cards, leaflets and display roller banners to promote the company’s refreshed look.

From an early meeting we adopted the strapline ‘supporting autism’ which was added into the logo so that viewers can see at a glance what True Colours is about. We picked up the rainbow theme from the existing logo and adapted it to be more representative of the company; six options were presented to the client and, with a couple of tweaks, the design was agreed.

Linking the website into the company’s social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube increased their overall visibility, Google rankings and aided accessibility for users across the full range of platforms.

The CRE8 solution

The company’s bright and memorable logo is now much more visible, with a strapline which gets to the point. Once incorporated into the new website, the vibrant colour scheme and design choices stand out well; the website itself is clearly mapped and easy to navigate, with large, readable text and plenty of content, including photographs of True Colours at work. A simple enquiry form encourages contact and the whole layout transfers easily to tablet or mobile.

Jordan works with the client regularly to update the website with latest news, uploading articles within a short turnaround time and assisting with any technical queries that they may have via phone or email.

The supporting products have been well-received by the client and are prominently displayed in welcome areas of their premises. Business cards allow Marian and Michelle to project a professional image in keeping with the remainder of the business.
